Ok guys, this is something that i have known about for a few years now and it is really disturbing to me. A lot of people don't even know this is going on so i thought i'd post a blog to raise awareness. Please take your time to read this! And watch this video...i know it is disturbing but you must know what is going on! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrEu4buG5Pc
Every year there is a Canadian Seal Hunt. Today was the start of this year's seal hunt. This is largest slaughter of marine mammals on Earth—sealers have killed more than a million baby seals for their fur in the past four years. There is video evidence of sealers leaving injured seals to choke on their own blood for as long as 90 minutes, cutting open animals as they struggle, stabbing seals through the skulls with illegal weapons, and dragging conscious seals across the ice with boat hooks. Scientists have condemned the current Canadian harp seal management plan as reckless and irresponsible, stating that it poses a threat to the survival of the population. Notably, today's kill levels meet and even exceed those of a half century ago, when sealers quickly reduced the harp seal population by nearly two-thirds.
According to European animal rights group Equanimal, over 40 percent of the seals killed last year were still alive when they were skinned. 98 percent of these killed harp seals are under 3 months of age because of their soft white fur. Please watch the video and go to the website. It is hard to watch but you need to know about it! And spread the word! Many governments are banning the trade of seal products to try and end this inhumane hunt. Thank you so much for taking your time to read this.

I admit i couldnt bring myself to click on the links, i knew it would make me cry. I hope something is done about this. In this day and age it shouldnt be happening.
ReplyDeleteUgh this reminds me of something else...not animal rights, but just as if not more disturbing. The other day we went to get Nate formula and I wanted to try good start because everyone at work talks about what a good formula it is. So I went to grab it and Phil stopped me and said that Nestle gave a bunch of free formula to Africa and advertised that formula is what the civilized world is using. So the mom's used it and their milk dried up (which happens when you don't breast feed of course) and then Nestle stopped giving it to them (I think they gave them the samples while they were in the hospital like they do to us) and then they stopped giving it to them so they would have to go buy it. It costs like an entire weeks wage just to buy one can so moms started to mix less into the bottles and thousands of babies died.
ReplyDeleteSo I tried to tell people at the hospital about it (I can't tell patients or I would get into trouble) and one person I told had his son on it and thought it was great...so that went out the window. Then I told two other girls and they said "well there are so many companies that do things like this, if we didn't use all of them that did, we wouldn't have any products to use" and I wish I would have thought to say "then maybe we SHOULDN'T be using any of them!"
It drives me crazy that the price of a human or animal's life isn't worth the money.
