Anyway, let me first say that our ten day trip to New England turned into a fourteen day trip....because of Hurricane Irene. Kinda annoying but we were glad to have a little bit of downtime (since our trip was so busy) before heading back home.
We had suuuch a blast! The first day Dan's mom showed us around her neighborhood all of the tornado damage. It was so sad and crazy how different her neighborhood is. Around 8 houses got torn down from the tornado and there are like no more trees. It's crazy. The next day we had Dan's best friend from high school's wedding. (he was one of the groomsmen) and it was such a nice wedding!
The third day we spent the day with Dan's dad and his dad's girlfriend and met up with some more people on his dad's side of the family for dinner. Monday was the start of our big road trip through New England. We drove up to Northern Vermont where Dan went to college and stayed with one of his college buddies. It was fun to see where Dan spent four years of his life going to "school". Tuesday we drove through New Hampshire and stopped at a few places and went into Portland, Maine for some dinner and then stayed in New Hampshire for the night. It's crazy cuz part of some of the road we drove on got washed away from the hurricane with all the crazy flooding they got in Vermont! Oh, there was also an earthquake on the tuesday in Virginia...we didn't feel it but others around us did.
Wednesday we went to Rhode Island and omg I love love LOVE Rhode Island. It is SO beautiful. It was definitely my favorite part of the vacation. Everything is so close to the ocean, but also close to other places like Boston and Cape Cod. (you can drive diagonally across rhode island in like 45 min...everything is close haha) anyway we spent some time at Narragansett Beach in Rhode Island then went over to Newport which was a really cool place! We also drove along some ocean road and Dan (the little planner he is) had it perfectly planned out for us to watch the sunset on the beach :)
Thursday we went to the Cape and stayed with his aunt and uncle for two nights. It was a blast! thursday we hung out at the beach (our own kinda private-ish beach because his aunt's family own a house on the beach) and then went back to there house for yummy lobster! on friday we went to Martha's Vineyard and that was cool to see! Also Obama was there and we pretty much ate lunch with all his secret service because he was staying in the house across from where we were eating. His daughters actually ended up walking right past us.
Saturday we spent the day in Boston for Dan's cousins wedding. It was cool we blayed Bocce (no idea at all how to spell it) and then went on a Duck Tour of Boston. The wedding was also very very nice!
Sunday we drove through Hurrican Irene to get back to Springfield...we were supposed to fly out that day but all flights got cancelled and we learned we wouldn't be getting another flight until wednesday now. So we got to spend a few more days with Dan's mom, see his dad another time. And get one more chance to go to the beach. We went to Narragansett again (rhode island) and it was crazy to see the difference the hurricane made.
Anyway, this is like the longest blog post ever. If you are still with me...here's some pics!!!
